Join us this week on Spotlight Houston for an inspiring episode about the incredible work of Covenant House, a sanctuary for homeless youth in our city.
As one of the largest cities in the country, homelessness continues to be a big problem in Houston, and it’s not just adults who are affected. Many young people are also suffering, feeling lost, hungry, and scared. They need a place where they can feel safe and cared for.
Covenant House is a non-profit organization that opened over 40 years ago to provide a safe shelter for young men and women aged 18-24. Since then, it has grown into much more. Felicia Broussard, Chief of Development for Covenant House, joins our host, Blanca Quezada, to discuss how the organization is meeting the needs of homeless youth.
Felicia shares how these young people often become homeless due to abuse, abandonment, aging out of foster care, or being at risk of human trafficking. Covenant House is committed to providing a safe place and meals and helping these young adults finish school, go to college, find jobs, and learn life skills. They offer a wide range of programs and services, including on-site medical care, financial literacy, employment assistance, life skills workshops, mental health care, and much more.
